1. Tell us what you want to improve
Start with the job, then confirm the material. Refreshing a landscape bed is different from filling a low area in a driveway. A photo helps us understand what you mean, but it does not replace clear measurements or confirmation of the material you want.

2. Measure before you order
For a simple rectangular area, write down its length, width, and intended material depth. Keep the units consistent. A basic volume estimate is:
Length in feet × width in feet × depth in feet ÷ 27 = cubic yards.
For example, an area 12 feet long and 6 feet wide, with a planned depth of 3 inches, has a geometric volume of about 0.67 cubic yards. In that example, 3 inches becomes 0.25 feet. This is a math example, not a recommended depth or a final order quantity.
Break an irregular area into smaller sections and measure each one. Uneven ground, existing material, and the needs of your project can change the amount to order. If rock is sold by weight, ask for the supplier’s conversion for that specific material. Cubic yards and tons are not interchangeable.
3. Pick a drop spot the truck can reach
Delivery is a dump-on-property service. Think about where the pile will land and how you will move material from there. A convenient spot for a wheelbarrow still needs to work for the delivery truck.
- Send a wide photo of the proposed drop area and the route to it.
- Mention narrow entrances, gates, slopes, soft ground, and low branches or wires.
- Explain whether parked vehicles or other items will be moved before delivery.
- Tell us which surfaces and landscaping need extra care.
We need to confirm access and placement before agreeing to a drop location. Have another spot in mind if your first choice cannot be reached safely.
4. Separate delivery from installation
Having a pile delivered does not mean it has been spread, graded, or installed. Decide who will handle that work before the truck arrives. Installation may be available depending on the job. Ask about the work you need, availability, and a separate quote. Do not assume it is included with delivery.
